Mariamma Puthenpurackal

Mariamma Puthenpurackal

BIRTHDAY: ?July 23, 1938

COUNTRY:? India

Mariamma is an 81 year old widow with three sons and two daughters. For many years she was a devoted homemaker who enjoyed caring for her family. As she aged and after her husband passed, one of her sons was able to take her in and provide her with a home. The relationship with her daughter-in-law, however, was so strained that she was asked to leave. With no pension and no one to care for her, Mariamma was so pleased to be welcomed to the Mercy Home, where she receives such compassionate care.

Mariamma has several health issues, including diabetes, psoriasis, and high blood pressure. Grateful for the medications that keep her ailments in check, she considers herself to be in relatively fair health.

Deriving strength from her spiritual practices, Mariamma spends much of her day in prayer. She enjoys the company of the other Grans and staff, alike, and considers them to be family. As Mariamma enjoys food, meals are a highlight of her day. Although she will eat anything that is placed before her, she is especially pleased if the dinner table is graced with tapioca with meat.

Sponsorship will assist in the provision of food, medication, and many items of basic need. Just as importantly, Mariamma will know that someone cares.

OUR PARTNER CARING ORGANIZATION – Mercy Home, Thidanad, Kerala, India

Inflation in the countries where we work and the eroding purchasing power of sponsorship dollars make it hard to deliver a consistent level of assistance to grandparents around the world. An increase of a few dollars in your monthly contribution will help us keep benefits strong for all our seniors in the sponsorship program, including your sponsored grandparent, regardless of variations in local economies. With your support, sponsored Grandparents in HelpAge Canada programs can meet their daily needs and live secure healthy lives with dignity.
